With the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on the horizon, it’s not that difficult to get excited about the next installment of the franchise. But the wait has been long and these remaining days before the release will seem even longer. Here are some great ways you and your family can immerse yourself in the world of Star Wars as you count down the days to the new film.
1.) Get your wardrobe ready:
We are all aware that there is a ton of merchandise on retail shelves just waiting to help you display your Star Wars love. However, it’s not always as easy to find a one-stop shop for the whole family. However, Kohl’s and Target have really stepped up to the plate with great looks in all of their departments. They have apparel for men, women, girls, and boys that feature art inspired by the first six films and the upcoming release. Better yet, there are not only basic tees, but plenty of fashion bodies and prints to choose from.
Honorable mentions include Hot Topic, which has a great assortment for young men and women, Torrid with their lovely collection for plus size ladies, and the online retailers We Love Fine and Her Universe, which have super-fan geared fashion offerings.
2.) Catch up on your Star Wars history:
Titan has come through with their newly minted Star Wars Jedi Master magazine. This a fun way for kids (and maybe some big kids) to learn more about the world of Star Wars via character biographies, puzzles, trivia, and more. Each issue covers a point on the universe timeline with issue one covering everything Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. (Love it or hate it, that movie is cannon, folks!)
I had a chance to preview the first issue and it’s something I would have loved as a kid. While the history aspects are fun, what’s even better is the Jedi training provided and the cut out Jedi Training Academy certificate, signed by Mace Windu.
You can learn more about subscribing at the official Titan Magazines website.
3.) Experience Star Wars in person:
It should come as no small surprise that Disney has stepped up to deliver Season of the Force, an immersive experience at their parks for fans of all ages. The world of Star Wars has taken over a good chunk of Tomorrowland in the California park and has a home at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida. At these locations, guests can meet and greet their favorite characters, take photos in recreations of beloved movie set pieces, view replica models, props and costumes, and, of course, buy exclusive merchandise.
For those who can handle the intensity of a roller coaster, you can also ride Hyperspace Mountain, which is a themed overlay of the original Space Mountain attraction.
In an unusual twist, guests are being allowed to wear their Star Wars costumes into the park. This applies to both children and adults. However, be sure to review the guidelines first before you arrive. (For the Dark Side users among you, check out our handy Sith makeup tutorial.)
One thing is for certain, this is a great time to be a fan, old or new. With so many diverse ways to dive into this world, it’s not hard to maintain excitement for the next installment.
