Twitch certainly has its fair share of internet celebrities and popular streams, but did you know that some of your favorite actors, writers, and musicians also broadcast from time to time?
While not as popular as some gaming streams on Twitch, if you’re a fan of their work, their broadcasts are a unique opportunity to see them out of the spotlight. Ask them a question in chat for hints about what they’re working on, or even better, watch how these famous faces react under pressure when under attack by zombies, stormtroopers, heroes, and more in your favorite video games.
You might remember FPJr. from a slate of ’90s teen movies, or, if you’re a Star Wars fan, from his current role on Star Wars Rebels as the Jedi Kanan Jarrus. On Twitch, Prinze Jr. embraces his role with a Kanan-themed screen and icons and the occasional game of Star Wars Battlefront. He also regularly streams WWE 2K16 and Overwatch in the evenings; you can even jump in a multiplayer game with him on the Xbox One if your timing is right.
While he’s playing, Prinze Jr. often answers questions in Twitch chat about Rebels (including hints for upcoming episodes) and his family, especially fond memories of his father.
Sam Witwer is an experienced actor and voice actor who often teams up with Freddie Prinze Jr. The two self-styled “Force Bros” (Witwer can also be heard in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels as baddies such as Darth Maul and Emperor Palpatine) take on legions of stormtroopers in Battlefront. If you’re lucky enough, at just the right moment you can hop into a multiplayer game with Kanan and Darth Maul at your side.
When he’s streaming solo, Witwer enjoys playing Hitman and XCOM. His rescue dog, Leonard, also makes regular appearances.
Author and philanthropist Patrick Rothfuss typically opens his streams answering a few questions from chat while he gives viewers a chance to fire up Twitch. (Just don’t ask when his next book is coming out.)
But once he’s in the game, it’s all business as he focuses on the game screen. Rothfuss, author of the phenomenal Kingkiller Chronicles, often plays games like Doom and Fallout 4, but occasionally you can also catch a glimpse of his recently crowdfunded board game Tak in action.
Performer and producer deadmau5 has a mix of both music and gaming on his Twitch channel. Recently he’s been streaming slither.io in some somewhat understated streams, although deadmau5 certainly gets excited when he makes a good move. (“This game is so evil.”) Like just about everyone else in this list, he also jumps into Overwatch from time to time.
But it’s probably no surprise that it’s the music that makes his Twitch channel unique. deadmau5 streams from his studio, making music and answering the occasional question or comment in chat.
You never know what you might see on T-Pain’s Twitch channel. Whether the producer-musician is getting his hair done while playing Doom multiplayer or musing on life as a gamer while in Overwatch, it’s always entertaining—and definitely NSFW.
His enthusiasm for gaming is contagious. While he doesn’t answer many questions from chat, he is such a great commentator on the games he’s playing and life in general that you don’t need a Q&A to feel like you’re getting to know more about him.
