Fantasy Flight Deals Out Insanity With Arkham Horror: The Card Game

ahc01_box_leftLovecraft lovers love them some Arkham Horror. And if you’re one of those people, then here’s some great news. Fantasy Flight Games is releasing Arkham Horror: The Card Game. This game combines the adventure of a roleplaying game with the simplicity of a card game. You and up to three friends take on the role of investigators attempting to unravel an arcane mystery and prevent the evil of the Old Ones from seeping into your world.

How to play

Each player takes on a persona with their own unique set of strengths, weaknesses, and resources. These traits partially depend on the cards you draw from the deck. These cards also affect your arcane knowledge, available weapons, talents, and even companions. Don’t think you’ll be some kind of super hero though. Arkham Horror: The Card Game reminds you that you are all too human. You only have two hands to hold objects, one neck, and one body. Atop from your physical limitations, there is only so much a human can understand about the occult. To make things even more difficult, characters also have flaws to make the game more challenging. These flaws include fears, personal weaknesses, and ghosts from the character’s past.

During each turn, the player can use up to three actions to achieve their goals. These actions include things like searching a room, assembling a shotgun, or traveling to a new location. You can carry out your investigation however you like, but keep in mind that while you play, the adversaries are simultaneously playing out their agenda. If you fail to find enough clues to complete the act deck before the villains complete their agendas, well congratulations, you just doomed humanity.

The game contains multiple adventures, each with its own set of acts and agendas. There is also a custom encounter deck that incorporates treachery and enemies into mix. Beyond the game, you can expand your experience into multiple campaigns.

Arkham Horror: The Card Game is currently in production. Keep your eyes on Fantasy Flight’s website for upcoming information and the release date.
