The weekend is the perfect time to stay home, relax, and catch up on your favorite TV shows. And if you’ve already binged the shows we’ve recommended, have no fear! There’s always more to watch so if you’re in search of that next favorite show, here are a few options for your weekend.
Following Kimmy Schmidt after she escapes years of captivity living in a bunker under the control of a crazy cult leader, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a comedy parceled out in half-hour episodes. From many people involved in the creation of 30 Rock, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is packed full of hilarious cultural references and jokes about how much has changed since Kimmy entered that bunker, but it also has a lot of heart. Kimmy has been through a terrible situation, yet still manages to remain upbeat and positive. That’s something we can all learn from!
Watch Season 1 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix. Season 2 will be released on Netflix on April 15.
Produced in part by The Jim Henson Company, Farscape is a sci-fi series that aired four seasons from 1999-2003. The series follows characters as they flee from an organization called Peacekeepers. There are a variety of characters in space, including animatronics! How cool is that? But don’t worry, this show isn’t for kids; there are some pretty gory bits. If you’re looking for a funny and unique sci-fi show, Farscape may just be the show for you!
Watch all 4 seasons of Farscape on Netflix.
I started watching The Fall for Gillian Anderson reasons but was quickly sucked into the story of the search for a serial killer in Belfast. The audience immediately knows who the killer is and is able to not only see his point of view, but also that of the police searching for him. Plus, the show also addresses misogyny, sexism, and our culture’s obsession with serial killers. Add in hours of flawless Gillian Anderson and we have a winner!
Watch Seasons 1 and 2 of The Fall on Netflix. The third and final season returns in 2016.
With terrible decision-making skills and hilarious antics, Sterling Archer is insane. Luckily, he’s surrounded by a bunch of other people with questionable morals. These characters make Archer consistently one of the funniest shows on TV. Also, the episodes are short and perfect for bingeing. While you might not make it through all six seasons in one weekend, you can easily watch a few episodes every night. Trust me, once you start you can’t stop!
Watch Seasons 1-5 of Archer on Netflix. Season 7 begins airing on FX on March 31.
Reminiscent of The Twilight Zone, Black Mirror is a sci-fi anthology series that, in large part, examines technology and culture. Created by Charlie Brooker, each episode of Black Mirror is self-contained and most likely will feel a little too real. It’s possible that some of these episodes aren’t too far from reality!
Watch Seasons 1, 2, & the Christmas Special of Black Mirror on Netflix. Season 3 returns in 2016.
