Nerdist posted an article listing five classic Disney cartoons they would love to see made into live-action films, Cinderella-style. While I totally agreed with their picks, I kind of went a bit overboard and decided to offer my dream casting suggestions to all five films they listed. You may have seen the cast lists I’ve created for some of the other movies (check them out if you haven’t), and now I’m talking dream casting for Peter Pan. We’re getting a live-action prequel to Peter Pan in the film Pan, and we’ve also seen a live-action “sequel” of sorts in Hook, but we haven’t really seen a live-action movie of Peter Pan in a few years. So here are my suggestions:
Jaden Smith as Peter Pan
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like, if Peter Pan had a Twitter account, he would send out tweets that were just as confusingly weird and strangely inspirational like Jaden Smith’s. Jaden would make a great Pan because, despite growing up in the spotlight as the son of two very famous parents, he doesn’t seem to be in much of a hurry to grow up. I think he could pull off Peter Pan’s adventure and fun-loving spirit with ease. Even better, Jaden Smith’s work on The Karate Kid means he would totally be ready to go toe-to-toe with Captain Hook.
Lilla Crawford as Wendy
You might remember Lilla from her role as Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods last Christmas. I feel like Lilla would be able to bring the sweetness that you need to play Wendy, but she’s also be able to bring a bit of sass into the role. I mean, after all, a dude literally just flew into her window and offered to take her to another mystical land. Wendy probably should have a bit of sass.
Zach Galifianakis as Captain Hook
I mean, can you picture anyone else as an eccentric pirate who roams around a mystical land generally being awful to a gang of young boys, with a complicated with the crocodile that chomped his hand off? I don’t think I can.
Mindy Kaling as Tinkerbell
Tink is Peter’s tiny, brave, sassy companion. She may be a fairy, and she may be small, but Tink is invaluable to Peter Pan and the Lost Boys. In the film Hook, Julia Roberts played Tink and was able to bring some sarcasm and humor to the role. Mindy Kaling would be able to get that magical fairy role down pat, but she’s also proved in The Mindy Project that she has a biting sarcasm and a scrappy attitude that could allow her to more than hold her own among Peter and the Lost Boys.
