Nerdist posted an article listing five classic Disney cartoons they would love to see made into live-action films, Cinderella-style. While I totally agreed with their picks, I kind of went a bit overboard and decided to offer my dream casting suggestions to all five films they listed. You may have seen the cast lists I’ve created for some of the other movies (check them out if you haven’t), and now I’m talking dream casting for Aladdin. I’ll be honest. Trying to think of someone else to play the role of the Genie after the loss of Robin Williams is kind of a depressing task. However, I do have some suggestions for the other roles. Check them out:
Dev Patel as Aladdin
I can’t be the only one who had an awkward cartoon crush on Aladdin as a kid, right? Because he managed to catch my eye as a kid, picking the right guy to don Aladdin’s purple vest is incredibly important, but I think Dev Patel is a great choice. Dev has grown up quite a bit from his days as the gangly Jamal in Slumdog Millionaire. He has that great mix of sexy and sweetness that made us all fall in love with Aladdin back when we were kids.
Meaghan Rath as Jasmine
I’m still having a hard time accepting that Being Human isn’t on TV anymore, so this might just be me trying to slowly work the Being Human gang back onto TV. Motives aside, Meaghan Rath has that great blend of adorkable, sweetness, and beauty that is classic Jasmine. She would have no problem pulling off the role of Princess Jasmine, and I’m also pretty sure that she and Dev Patel would make a freaking adorable couple.
Oded Fehr as Jafar
Oded has that great mix of alluring and dangerous attitude that Jafar has. I mean, he wouldn’t even need to hypnotize Jasmine to fall in love with him. I mean, just look into those eyes and just try to not fall in love with him. Go ahead, I dare you.
