Things in a galaxy far, far away are looking incredibly good these days. With the recent release of the final trailer for Rogue One, it would seem like fans anticipation for the future of the franchise couldn’t get any greater. That is, of course, until it was officially announced today that Donald Glover would be playing a young Lando Calrissian in the stand-alone Han Solo film coming in 2018!
After much speculation about the future of the character, Star Wars released an incredibly enthusiastic statement confirming that the multi-faceted actor would co-star along with Alden Ehrenreich in one of the most highly anticipated additions to the official Star Wars cannon. Who’s to say if the young Glover will be as smooth as Billy Dee Williams in his portrayal of everyone’s favorite (eventual) Cloud City Baron Administrator, but regardless, we’re absolutely stoked knowing he’ll be showing us how Calrissian made his way through the criminal underbelly of the galaxy.
“We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us,” said directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. “These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”
With his fandom flag flying high, Donald Glover is THE perfect choice to play this Star Wars icon. His work in Community and Atlanta have shown him to be an incredible and versatile talent, and he’ll bring the exact amount of humor and grit to one of The Galaxy’s favorite scoundrels. G&S applauds the decision, and we can’t wait for 2018!
