Critical Role’s Ashley Johnson: Where You’ve Heard Her Before

Critical Role’s Ashley Johnson: Where You’ve Heard Her Before

Ashley Johnson has been acting since she was very young, gracing the television and movie screen alike. You can catch her now on Critical Role playing Pike Trickfoot, gnome cleric in the service of Sarenrae, but you might not know that you’ve also heard (and seen!) her in some of your other favorite media.

These cartoon characters have a few things in common: They’re brave and charismatic, and you don’t want to get on their bad side–much like Ashley herself.

Terra – Teen Titans / Teen Titans Go!

Terra is an enemy of the Teen Titans… most of the time. Although she starts as an ally thanks to the affections of Beast Boy, she shows her true colors and attacks the Titans. Her earth and rock manipulation powers are formidable, but Raven is never afraid to take her on one-on-one.

You can also hear Critical Role guest star Wil Wheaton as Aqualad when the two team up in the Teen Titans Go! episode “Rocks and Water.”

Gwen Tennyson – Ben 10

Gwen Tennyson is Ben’s cousin and close ally. Gwen is smart and very capable of taking care of herself, and as time goes on begins to master her latent magical and alien abilities.

Ashley plays Gwen at different ages across the various Ben 10 animated series.

Shiseru – Naruto Shippūden

Shiseru is a strong and skilled swordswoman who protects Hacho Village. She and her childhood friend Dokku fight to safeguard the children of the village, and find old feelings rekindling through their experience together. Naruto comes to their aid when sinister shinobi attack the village.

Shiseru is headstrong and short-tempered, but will do whatever it takes to protect those she cares for.

Renet – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012)

Renet Tilly is a Time Master in training, sometimes known as a Timestress, who meets the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in “Turtles in Time.” She’s impulsive but brave, and quickly charms Michelangelo. Renet is a recurring character who helps the Turtles when they find themselves trapped in a time they don’t belong in.

Ellie – The Last of Us

Ashley provides both the voice and motion capture for Ellie, a teenager who finds herself a central figure in a post-apocalyptic world that has been ravaged by a fungal infection. Ellie is somehow immune to the infection, and it’s up to the main character Joel to get her to Salt Lake City safely to create a vaccine from her blood.

The Last of Us: Part II is currently in development, with Ashley returning to the role as the lead protagonist.

Beth – The Avengers

Okay, it’s not a voice acting role, but we couldn’t resist adding this one to the list. Ashley plays a waitress in the first Avengers movie, who can only watch helplessly as the Chitauri attack New York City. In a deleted scene, Beth wanders the streets of the city before being rescued by Captain America.

You can also see Ashley every week in Blindspot, a crime drama currently airing on NBC.
