Critical Role: Take a Peek Into The Early Years of Vox Machina

By now, you’re very likely very familiar with Vox Machina and their Critical Role adventures. But did you know the campaign at the center of the series began two years before the show’s debut on March 12, 2015? Have you ever wanted to see what it was like back then? Well, you’re in luck!

You could mine the various Vox members’ social media accounts for clips, but no one’s got time for that. Fortunately, Ashley Johnson (Pike Trickfoot) and Liam O’Brien (Vax’ildan) posted a couple videos on YouTube which makes things a lot easier!

First up, a truly epic campaign deserves an equally epic trailer. Ashley delivers just that for the as-then-known-as Super High Intensity Team:

Now that you’re sufficiently hyped, how about a little in-game excitement? Thanks to Liam being in a reminiscent mood, we get to witness what was certain death turn into a magical save:

Now we move on to our last clip. In it, we get to see a truly historical moment: DM Matt Mercer pitching the idea for Critical Role to the group:

What started as a bunch of nerdy voice actors playing D&D has turned into something much bigger. Something that brings together a whole community of folks, both virtually and in real life, from all around the world who’ve bonded, supported each other, and helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for charities over the years. This just goes to show that great things can come from doing what you love.
