As some of you know, South by Southwest (SXSW) is this weekend and Nerdist is going to be doing some pretty rad things while there but Geek & Sundry also has some incredibly talented people attending the bash! Those people are Amy Vorpahl and her Foreververse-partner in crime, Jason Charles Miller. Amy will be there debuting her first album, Songs in the Key of D&D, on Friday, March 10th at Nerdist’s Backyard Bash. “I’m Coming (Into My Own)”, featured above is one of the tunes on the album.
The thing is, most of you know Amy as the extra-adorable-half of the musical duo on Foreververse and maybe even as the writer/referee/host of Mothership, but there are so many other awesome things to know about Amy Vorpahl. Like the fact that she started Dungeons and Dragons with 3.5 in college while also being a part of a secret game of AD&D with her drama professors? I bet you didn’t know that. She’s also got a fantastic acting reel considering she was in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom. That’s pretty fricking cool.
But it was on one wonderful evening that a fan of Saving Throw Show suggested that various bardic songs should be created as a Kickstarter reward and Amy and the crew loved the idea. Thus, her desire to create a full album of Dungeons and Dragons themed songs was born. She found her producer, Maxi Morales, and he helped bring each song to life in a way that she never dreamed possible. Amy and Maxi describe the album as being full of, “witty little ditties inspired by Dungeons and Dragons.” And each song is inspired by Amy’s own personal experiences while playing the famous tabletop roleplaying game.
So, if you happen to find yourself in the great land of BBQ and Westerns, also known as, Austin, Texas and you find yourself needing a mighty fine evening out in the town, consider stopping by Nerdist’s Backyard Bash on March 10th from 2pm to 5pm at Bangers Sausage and Beer Garden (Rainey Street in Austin, TX). If you don’t find yourself in Austin then you can stream it on Spotify and get it digitally from any music service site on the same day! So, it’ll almost be like you’re there.
