Earlier this month, Lucasfilm confirmed rumors that Alden Ehrenreich (Hail, Caesar!, Beautiful Creatures) will be playing the role of Han Solo in an upcoming Star Wars origin story. However, things may be looking even more expansive for young Solo. New York Daily News reports that Disney is finalizing a contract with Ehrenreich to play the scruffy-looking nerf herder in not one, but three movies.
But did you know that some A-list celebrities also auditioned for the role? We found their audition tapes. Look!
Okay, so it’s a joke for Conan on TBS, but it’s still pretty great. The team rounded up some brilliant candidates for the part, and each one brought their own flavor to the role. I particularly enjoyed 50 Cent and Jeff Goldblum. Though the perfect addition would’ve been if Harrison Ford showed up at the end. I’m sure somebody was thinking just that.
Ehrenreich received quite a bit of praise for his role in Hail Caesar!, and if there is anything the Star Wars films consistently do well, it’s casting. In this case, we have a new actor playing a younger version of a well-known character. It worked brilliantly for Ewan McGreggor as Obi-wan Kenobi, so I’m sure I’m not the only one excited to see what Ehrenreich will bring to the role.
But I’m still bummed that they didn’t cast 50 Cent.
