Celebrities That Are Secretly Super Geeky

Celebrities That Are Secretly Super Geeky

There are tons of celebrities out there who let their geek flag fly loud and proud. Our own Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton are two great examples of that. Part of their image—and part of why we love them so much—stems from their unabashed love of stuff that falls under the label of geek culture. Of course, not every celebrity lets their geeky side show as such, and there are some celebrities out there that you’d be surprised to learn are super geeky IRL. While there are tons of celebs that are geeky in secret, here are some of the most interesting secretly geeky celeb stories.

Robin Williams

Robin Williams

Since his death it has become more widely known that Williams was a pretty devoted gamer and a big fan of anime. Some of his favorite anime was Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell, and he was a big fan of playing games like Legend of Zelda—Ocarina of Time specifically. His love of gaming became more widely known after his death as Williams fans started a petition to get a World of Warcraft NPC modeled after Williams.

Katie Cassidy

Katie Cassidy

Sure, Cassidy is currently winning the hearts of Arrow fans everywhere portraying the Black Canary, but starring on a superhero show doesn’t immediately make you a geek. Besides, Cassidy has starred in several non-geeky projects prior to her role as Laurel Lance. Her current day job may be geeky, but Cassidy also engages in some seriously geeky behavior in her down time. She’s a pretty devoted gamer, and thanks to her step-dad’s urging, she’s learned how to take apart and build a computer back up again. That’s my kind of vigilante—crime fighting and tech support.

Leonardo DiCaprio

So Leo still hasn’t won himself an Oscar, but that doesn’t stop him from collecting other collectibles. The King of the World is a HUGE Star Wars fan, and had a meticulously cared for figurine collection. For the quick readers, you’ll notice I said had. Yes, Mr. DiCaprio has bid adieu to his massive collection of Star Wars collectibles, auctioning them all off in ’06 to help raise money for his environmental protection non-profit, The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation. Okay, okay, I guess the environment is a good reason to dump your collectibles…

Rosario Dawson

Rosario Dawson

While these days Dawson is rocking it on the Netflix series Daredevil, Dawson also has a sizable geeky side in her personal life. Dawson is not only a huge Trekkie, but she also co-created a comic book series called Occult Crimes Taskforce. I’m pretty sure starting your own comic book series paired with her role in the Marvel-verse essentially makes her geeky royalty.

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis

Mila Kunis is a fairly private person when it comes to what she lets the public know about her personal life, but she’s been very up front about her love of gaming—World of Warcraft in particular. Kunis started her gaming journey with tabletop games like Settlers of Catan, but soon moved into WoW where she quickly became obsessed. Although she has left the WoW world behind—reportedly (depending on who you ask) because her friends stopped playing, and/or because she got a bit too hooked to the game—it’s pretty rad to learn that she was a WoW player.
