Best Moms in Pop Culture

Great mothers don’t grow on trees. They’re a rare breed to be treasured and valued. After spending decades feeding us, raising us, and listening to us complain about every little thing, our mothers sent us out into the world to become (hopefully) successful and productive members of society. Thanks, Mom! Here’s a few moms throughout pop culture deserving of a shout out for their dedication to the craft of motherhood.

Elastigirl from “The Incredibles”

Mrs. Incredible (aka Elastigirl) does whatever it takes to keep her family together. Whether using her super powers to save her husband or performing more “typical” tasks, she’s dedicated and there when her kids needs her. What more could you ask?

Aunt May Parker from “Spider-Man”

Although Aunt May isn’t Peter Parker’s biological mom, she might as well be. After Peter’s parents die, Aunt May and Uncle Ben raise Peter as their own. When Uncle Ben is killed, Aunt May is all Peter has. She’s caring and supportive of Peter through his difficult and secretive times. However, for a significant portion of time she doesn’t know about his identity as Spider-Man. Various versions of Aunt May exist throughout pop culture as her role in the life of Peter is notable.

Morticia Addams from “The Addams Family”

Morticia Addams may not be the warm, “motherly”-type to her children but her strong demeanor keeps the household in line and the family out of trouble. Whether playing music, cooking meals or working in her garden, Morticia may not be the “typical” mother figure. However, she’s quick to defend her unconventional family and do what she thinks is best for them.

Molly Weasley from “Harry Potter”

Harry Potter’s mom died when he was young, but luckily the lovable Weasley family brings him into their family and he’s able to experience the dotting and loving kindness of Molly Weasley. Not only does she make sure her crazy household runs but she’s also there to defend her family when they need her the most.

The Bride from “Kill Bill: Vols. 1 and 2”

Although we don’t see much interaction between The Bride and her daughter, the entire premise of these two films is this bad-ass mom getting revenge on the man who took her daughter from her. I don’t know about you but with all of the struggles she goes through, it’s pretty clear her love knows no bounds.

Endora from “Bewitched”

Endora might be one of the most annoying step-mothers in the history of TV (poor Darrin!) but she clearly has her daughter’s interests in mind. She simply believes she deserves the best, even if it means making her life with Darrin more…complex in the short run. Plus she’s got those fun powers.

Lorelei Gilmore from “Gilmore Girls

As one of the most iconic TV mothers of all time, Lorelei Gilmore is simply the best. Whether she’s defending Rory to her mother or making sacrifices to get her into the best schools, Lorelei will do anything for her daughter. Plus, they’re best friends and (almost) always on the same page.
