Like all voracious gaming communities, fans of Hearthstone are always speculating what the next big shake-up in the game will bring. Blizzard has done a pretty good job of regularly delivering new batches of cards and designing them in a way that they open up all sorts of exciting possibilities. That doesn’t stop fans from insisting that they have card ideas that are bigger and better, and hell, sometimes they’re right! I’ve scoured out some of the best, most original, or most exciting Heartstone cards that (for now) live entirely in the world of our dreams.
Often some of the best card ideas ask a what-if question that the game hasn’t answered yet. For example: what if weapons had recurring spell-like abilities? Attacking a big minion might be hazardous to your health, but if you can remove their special abilities with a single hit then it might be worth taking the damage.
Reddit user warmshadows has designed some cards that asked the question “what if there was a rarity higher than Legendary?” Such a card would have to both play and look awe-inspiring, and this glitzy design doesn’t disappoint on either count. Besides, no one can call it overpowered because it’s a rarity that doesn’t exist yet! It’s the perfect excuse to go crazy.
Some particularly devoted types have even gone as far as to design entirely new classes! has dipped into such territory with their Explorer class. With an interestingly flexible hero power of Re-Equip, and introducing a totally new mechanic that revolves around the lone-wolf nature of explorers, they opened up a totally new realm of card exploration! There’s a few more of the Explorer cards in the gallery below.

Sometimes even the pros get into it! A while back, popular Hearthstone streamer Amaz took a crack at designing a Hearthstone version of the popular Monk class from WoW. There’s plenty of fuzzy pandas and strong drinks, of course, and a mechanic called Focus that triggers effects only if you use all the mana crystals you have that turn. It seems overpowered at first (and hey, maybe it is, that’s half the fun in imagining) but playing 1 card per turn can get surprisingly dicey. This class, too, has a few more examples in our gallery.
It says something about the Hearthstone community, though, that probably the most popular fanmade cards are complete nonsense created by an inept robot. A few of the best are above, and they are 100% truly created by a neural network that attempted to learn the rules of the game and create cards with its adorable little computer brain. As long as it keeps pumping out gems like Blood Manos, I am fully in favor of making it head of the Hearthstone design team.
Here’s hoping that we get to find out about the latest creations the sadly human Hearthstone designers have been cooking up when they take the stage at Blizzcon! In the meantime, all we can do is flip through our gallery and dream…
If you have any cool Hearthstone card ideas or mock-ups, definitely let us and the world know in the comments!
