Anime Gateways – Anime for Movie Lovers

The world of anime can be an overwhelming if you’re new to it (and a bit much even if you’re a hardcore fan). Don’t give up! As baffling and strange it can seem, it also contains some of the most memorable characters and best stories to grace any medium. Tales with heart, humor, romance, and awesome action. And space dogs. Sometimes there are space dogs!

Geek & Sundry, along with Funimation, wants to help you with our new show, Anime Gateways! Each episode is going to have a different theme: everything from Giant Robots to Romantic Comedies. The shows have a tremendous amount of diversity of them so we figured that different themes is a more accessible way to find shows that may interest you.

This week, we’re looking at:

Spirited Away
Ghost in a Shell
Summer Wars
Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F

If you’re an anime fan, there’s a 99.9% chance that your favorite anime isn’t on that list. BUT THIS IS ALSO WHERE YOU COME IN!! Please recommend your favorite anime in the comments below or post it on social media with #AnimeGateways. One of anime’s strongest aspects is the community behind each show, so please share the things that you love!

Check out www.funimation.com/geekandsundry for a 14-day Free Trial of their anime streaming service “FunimationNow.” They have a giant library to get you started, as well as something called “Broadcast Dubs”: anime that is dubbed just two weeks after it airs in Japan. Also, be sure to check out the Funimation Films site to find out where to see the Funimation movies that are currently in select theaters, like Shin Godzilla and Ruroni Kenshin: Part 3: The Legend Ends.

Please enjoy the show and don’t forget to tell us about the anime that you love!
