It’s true. All of it.
Well, just about, as we’re still awaiting confirmation from Disney and Lucasfilm, but there’s speculation of Alden Ehrenreich’s casting as young Han Solo for the untitled standalone film set to release on May 25th, 2018.
We’d previously heard about a handful of actors auditioning for the role, including Percy Jackson’s Logan Lerman, The Fault in Our Star’s Ansel Elgort, and Divergent’s Miles Teller, and the conversation regarding the original bunch of potential Solos leaned more on the negative side. It’s hard to imagine just anyone piloting the Millennium Falcon, but hopefully the final decision on Ehrenreich will settle nicely with the fandom.
Alden Ehrenreich is best known for his starring role in 2013’s Beautiful Creatures, which did poorly in the box office but presented a fine example of Ehrenreich as a leading man, and most recently for his role in Joel and Ethan Coen’s Hail, Caesar!. But don’t let his short filmography fool you, he’s worked with some of the most talented filmmakers in the business, Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola, and Warren Beatty to name a few.
The new Star Wars project is currently listed on IMDB as the Untitled Han Solo Anthology Film and so far only lists Alden Ehrenreich as a cast member, alongside Phil Lord and Christopher Miller as directors. Timeline wise, the story is supposedly set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, focusing on Han’s smuggling adventures before encountering Luke, Leia, and Obi Wan. Hopefully, we’ll start seeing rumors regarding Lando Calrissian casting soon, because what’s a Han Solo origin story without a little gambling and the changing of hands of the Falcon.
This huge casting news comes on the tails of a major Star Wars holiday, and co-director Miller celebrated by sharing a sneak peek image from the set.

Ehrenreich may have missed out on major roles in the past, losing out to Dane Deehan for the role of Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but you simply cannot beat inheriting the Han Solo legacy from the great Harrison Ford.
Fun fact, our future scoundrel actually had a fling with Padme Amidala herself, in a fragrance commercial.
The untitled Han Solo flick begins production in January.
We know that there’s been a lot of hubbub surrounding casting for our favorite nerf herder, so what do fans think now that there’s a strong possibility that Alden Ehrenreich is the chosen one? Tell us your opinion in the comments below.
