Adam Driver Blames Leia and Han for Kylo Ren’s Evil Turn

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now out on DVD/Blu-Ray, with all the extras we desperately crave. To whet our appetites for behind-the-scenes goodies, Disney has already released Daisy Ridley’s audition tape. Now Disney is giving us a look at episode VII’s bad guy, Kylo Ren.

Our budding Sith lord isn’t just a force for bad. As we know from the film, he’s also the former Ben Solo, the son of General Leia Organa and the smuggler-turned-hero Han Solo.

And star Adam Driver believes his parents put him on the path to villainy:

“If you really imagine the stakes of him, in his youth, having all these special powers and having your parents kind of be absent during that process on their own agendas, equally as selfish. He’s lost in the world that he was raised in, and feels that he was kind of abandoned by the people that he’s closest with.”

But that’s only one piece of the evil puzzle. According to J.J. Abrams, his journey toward the dark side was completed by Lord Snoke, who “had targeted this kid.” Because Leia and Han were mostly absent, Ben was easy pickings, emotionally speaking.
