4 Fun Game Of Thrones Activities To Do At Comic-Con

You may have noticed by now that we’re all just a tad obsessed with Game of Thrones here at Geek & Sundry. Just a tad. With San Diego Comic-Con right around the corner, we’re excited for all the GoT related activities we can do when we have a few minutes away from our own super mega awesome events. If you love the show as much as we do and are fortunate enough to get to SDCC, here are some of the fun things you can do while you’re there.

1. Go shopping!

One of my favorite things about any convention is shopping at the dealers’ hall and artists’ alley. You can spend hours walking up and down the aisles, browsing at all the cool offerings. You’ll find Game of Thrones collectibles, Funko Pop figures, original artwork, and maybe even costumes, weapon replicas, and wigs. Or maybe this SDCC exclusive pack of dire wolf plushies.

2. The Game of Thrones Panel and Q&A Session

This is about as close to the show as you can physically get here in the United States. It’s always fun to see the actors out of costume, and now’s your chance to do just that. This year’s cast panelists will include John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Conleth Hill (Varys), Faye Marsay (The Waif), Hannah Murray (Gilly), Kristian Nairn (Hodor), Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton), Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), and Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran Stark). The panel will be moderated by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Rob McElhenney on Friday, July 22 at 2:15pm in Hall H.

But if you can’t make it into Hall H, or just don’t want to deal with standing in line for hours on end, there will also be an “A Song of Ice and Fire: Game of Thrones Fan Panel” on Saturday, July 23 at the Neil Morgan Auditorium. Amin Javadi (Podcast of Ice and Fire, Bastards of Kingsgrave), Ashley Mitruk (Podcast of Ice and Fire), Kyle Maddock (Podcast of Ice and Fire, AfterBuzzTV), and Tara Lynne (The Geekiary) will discuss popular and obscure fan theories, compare the books to the television show, and take part in a general Q&A.

3. HBO’s Offsite Attraction

HBO will be hosting a “House of Black and White Hall of Faces” experience at 628 L Street, this year. Attendees will have the opportunity to have their photo taken and digitally displayed in one of the towers. They can share their images on various social media platforms as well as pickup their own printed copy. In addition to the Hall of Faces, attendees can scry through Melisandre’s flames using OC Dream holographic technology, pose with Arya’s Needle or upon the Iron Throne, and view authentic costumes from Arya, Jaqen H’ghar, and the Waif. Dragonstorm’s Daenerys-inspired line of silver jewelry will also be on display.

The exhibit will be open July 21-24 to anyone with a valid 2016 Comic Con Badge. The first 500 attendees will receive an exclusive Robert Hall “Beautiful Death” poster and a free Funko Pop figure.

4. Go on a Scavenger Hunt

HBO will be holding a Game of Thrones-themed scavenger hunt. Starting July 20 (preview night), Comic Con attendees can participate in the hunt by photographing and tweeting images of themselves with specific Game of Thrones products using the hashtag #GoTScavengerHunt. The first 15 players to complete the six challenges will receive a $200 prize package including CLUE: Game of Thrones and the convention exclusive expansion pack, a Dark Horse Varys figure, Factory Entertainment Game of Thrones plush figures, a McFarlane Iron Throne Room construction set, Insight Editions’ sigil stationary set, and a Game of Thrones Comic-Con exclusive Night King T-shirt. For details of the hunt, read our full report here.
