In the 22nd century, traditional, nuclear, and tactical warfare is phased out. New war machines called “Objects” are used to reduce casualties and preserve life, resulting in shorter, cleaner, “safer” wars. Due to this new world order, all the nations of the world is split into four districts that consistently fight one another due to the differing focus of what each district represents. This all changes when two soldiers shake things up when they defeat and outsmart a very dangerous object. Their triumph over the object shows the machines can be destroyed by man.
The Asterisk War
Invertia is the name of the doomsday event that caused the destruction of Earth’s biggest cities. Due to this catastrophe, the Integrated Enterprise Foundation (IEF) is created as the world leadership organization. The city of Asterisk has six main schools which hold tournaments called Festas between metahumans called Genestella. Ayato Amagiri, a Genestella student attending an Asterisk school, encounters princess Julis-Alexia von Riessfeld and is forced to fight her. This fight sets off a series of events that may lead Ayato to his sister, and the downfall of the IEF.
