Fall is here at last! That means Halloween, apple cider, and pumpkin spice everything. For my fellow crafters, it means we finally get to wear all those awesome knit and crochet pieces we’re making! My to-do craft list is already full with some intricate shawls, including the “Come and Get Me, Daryl” Walking Dead-inspired piece I featured a few months ago.
But then a set of lovely dragonscale gauntlets started circulating around the net the other day, I thought to myself, “Pfft, I can make those.” Then I thought, “Winter is coming. I wonder what other fantasy projects are out there.” I did some digging on Ravelry–only the 2nd greatest website on the internet after Geek & Sundry, am I right?–and found lots of really fun looking projects with a fantasy flair. Check out the gallery below for inspiration. Links to the patterns can be found in the images.
These are just a handful of the pieces I’ve found. There’s a lot more if you do a search on Ravelry using key words such as “fantasy,” “dragon,” unicorn,” “scales,” “steampunk,” or otherwise. And if you like the look of the soft dragon scales, those are created with a technique called “crocodile stitch.” You can find tutorials in your pattern or places like YouTube.
And while you’re in the mood for fantasy, be sure to enter or vote for Geek & Sundry’s Inkshares contest going on now through November 1.
